Interior Designer: Wolf Grey
As part of an on-going series on the journal I am profiling some of the interior designers whose work I admire and who have used my products so beautifully. I find it so interesting to see how all these wonderfully talented designers use my patterns in their own unique way and with such unexpected combinations and I am hoping that it will give you inspiration of how you can use pattern in your home.
Today I would like to introduce you to Ellie Helme of Wolf Grey based in Berkshire in the UK. Ellie left a career in Forensic Science to study at the Institute of Interior Design before launching her boutique interior design company Wolf Grey in 2013.
Ellie creates beautiful, functional homes that are also environmentally responsible, encouraging reusing original and vintage items and mixing them with modern design pieces to create timeless and personal spaces.
I have included a selection of the beautiful bathrooms that she has designed which well and truly answers the question that I am frequently asked: Can you use wallpaper in a bathroom? Ellie loves using wallpaper in cloakrooms. “It is often the smallest and most neglected corner of the house. So it's a great space to encourage clients to be daring and use pattern, colour and wallpaper that they would not be brave enough to use in other rooms of the house,” she says.
The beautiful bathroom above is on the ground floor of a grade II listed Cotswold Manor House. “There were some amazing original features we retained included the Cotswold Stone slabs and lead windows. We installed panelling to half height around the room and wanted wallpaper that would enhance the original features. I had seen the Oak Tree wallpaper a few years before and knew immediately that this was the design we should use in this room. It's a perfect mix of traditional, modern, fresh and playful”.
Ellie used Seascape at Dusk wallpaper for a very different look in this bathroom in a house in Maidenhead. “I wanted a fresh, graphic wallpaper for this ground floor bathroom. Seascape was the perfect choice here as it provided the subtle texture that this room needed. I combined it with a classic metro tile laid in a herringbone pattern”.
The projects that Wolf Grey designs are as varied as Ellie’s clients; “I tailor the designs to client’s personalities, the architecture of the house and how they want to use the space. I would say there is a common theme of using graphic patterns, natural materials and always a chevron where possible” says Ellie.
