Tell A Fairy Tale
It is Tell a Fairy Tale Day today...
This might not seem an important day, but whilst my wallpapers are predominantly inspired by nature, a childhood love of fairy tales and storytelling has stayed with me and this, combined with nature has been the spark that ignited several of my designs.
The idea of tangled vines enveloping an entire castle and it’s inhabitants whilst they lay sleeping for 100 years, is a theme that I can’t see ever being complete for me. Not so much the actual story of Sleeping Beauty, (I won't be teaching my daughters that life's problems will be solved by the kiss of a handsome prince) but the image of a protective wall of nature keeping everyone safe and continuing to grow whilst the world stands still appeals.
‘Briar Owl’ wallpaper came first, with entwined branches and guardian owls; next was ‘Brambleweb’, an arts and crafts inspired pattern with never ending brambles designed to grow all around the room like a bramble thicket. I suppose that ‘Oak Tree’ is also a continuation of this subject matter and I am not done yet, I am working on another interpretation of this concept as we speak.
And still on the theme of fairy tales, there is also ‘Rapunzel Stripe’. A design that from afar appears to be a traditional monochrome stripe but on closer inspection is cascading plaits of ebony hair.
So, I will certainly be reading fairy tales this Friday, let me know if you would like to see any of your favourites turned into a design.
