Christmas Crafting- How to make Crackers

It is the last of the Christmas crafting posts today, I really hope that you have enjoyed them..

Using left over wallpaper scraps to make beautiful decorations for your home, helping to make your Christmas a little bit more sustainable and guaranteeing that your decorations will go with your décor.

So today we are making CHRISTMAS CRACKERS!

If you want something a little more tasteful than the average shop bought Christmas cracker, why not make your own, with wallpaper left over from your last decorating adventure, they will compliment your decorating scheme and you can make them personal, without the usual plastic gifts that end up in landfill.

You will need:

•Wallpaper offcuts

•Thin twine or ribbon

•Cardboard tubes (loo roll or kitchen roll inners are fine)

•Tape

•Scissors

•Little toys to go inside (optional)

Instructions to make Christmas Crackers

I have made very simple crackers, (without snaps as they frighten my dog)

- Cut a rectangle from your left-over wallpaper and place face down on the table with the cardboard tube (loo roll or kitchen roll inners are fine) centred on top.

- Trim the paper to fit and tape in place around the tube.

- You can score the wallpaper at the end of the tube, which may be neater, but I just twisted it , then tie the end with ribbon or twine.

- Add anything into the crackers without overfilling, a joke or note on a tiny slip of paper, a tiny toy, a paper crown (I also made these out of left-over wallpaper, another benefit being, you can make child size crowns that will actually fit any small guests.)

- Twist the other end of the cracker and tie with twine or ribbon.

- Add any extra decorations to the cracker if you want, I liked mine simple or you can add name tags to them as place settings at a table.

We used the following wallpapers to make the crackers:
