The Wonder of Snow

Wilson’s Crystals Wallpaper

This Sunday the 19th of January, is World Snow Day. Our Cotswold village has had a little flurry of snowflakes so far this year and looking out the window to see the landscape transformed into a magically soft winter scene never fails to excite me.

I found out that I was expecting twins the day that the huge snowfall brought by The Beast from The East swept over us in London. We escaped into the nearest cafe (the much missed Nordic bakery) and whilst sitting there in shock and watching the snow falling heavily through the window I decided I would call one of my daughters Snow.

And previously I designed Wilson's Crystals wallpaper to create a really calming pattern that was simple and graphic but captured the delicate beauty of snowfall. The design features thirty different snowflakes, each one hand-drawn individually in pen and is inspired by the remarkable work of Wilson Bentley, who photographed more than 5000 snowflakes in his lifetime and discovered that no two are alike. You can view the digital library of Wilson's images here.
