Interior Designer: Cathie Hong Interiors
Today I am profiling Cathie Hong Interiors as part of an on-going series focusing on interior designer’s whose work I love and who have used my patterns in a wonderful way. I am hoping that these posts will inspire you and give you ideas of how to use pattern in your own home.
Cathie had many careers before setting up her interior design business in 2018. She majored in Human Development, then did admin-based jobs before setting up a calligraphy and stationary shop, which she always planned to grow into a bigger brand. But after taking interior design classes at a local college she fell in love with design and started by designing rooms for friends, these projects grew into full house renovations and she is now immersed in multiple projects.
Cathie designs interiors that are modern, organic and neutral. “I lean towards more minimalist spaces, because I love to create environments that feel calm (possibly influenced by the fact that I have four children under 10!). However it is equally important to me for the spaces to feel cosy. “
“Home should be a place you want to be, not chaotic, not over stimulating, but warm, layered and deeply personal. “
Cathie used Seascape in Winter wallpaper in a bedroom in a brand new modern build.
“The house is beautifully designed with high ceilings and large windows but the bedroom felt sterile with plain grey painted walls, and minimal furniture. We wanted to create a really playful bedroom for my client's two little boys to share, with fun patterns, little pops of colour but not over stimulating. The Seascape wallpaper provided the perfect backdrop for the room with its simple black and white line drawing wave pattern, and we warmed the room up with maple wood furnishings, forest green upholstery, and deep blue textiles”
“My client's family loves exploring the great outdoors so it felt fitting to bring the themes of nature into the bedroom in the pattern of the wallpaper and the colour choices. The final touch was adding a couple custom watercolour line drawings of two special national parks that my client commissioned from her talented friend.”
